Christie sat there with her eyes closed, thinking about what other abilities the group could be hiding. Kylie had said that out of the lot of them, only her and Daren had physical abilities that would affect people, and with Kylie in the ground now, that just left Daren with his shape-shifting ability.

The rest of the group had to have some variations on illusion and summoning abilities. She struck her head against the wall behind her and sighed. This wouldn't be easy by any means, but they would do it...at least she hoped so.

Christie sat like that, thinking about how they could possibly defeat them, when she felt a cold nose press against her face and a rough tongue pull against her cheek. She opened her eye and smiled as she saw the concerned face of Kaci next to her.

"Hey there, Kay. How did you get here without being seen?" She got an eye roll from the wolf.

"Really? That's the first thing that you ask? Not the fact that you panicking freaked me out completely, so I ran as fast as I could to get here to make sure you were okay?" Kaci pushed her head into Christie's shoulder and sat next to her so that she could pet her between the ears.

"It's okay now, I'm fine...just thinking some things through."

"Yeah, I can hear that. Mind telling me what happened?"

"Not really." She got the look again and sighed. "Fine, but it's a long story so I'm going to show you rather than tell you." She opened her mind a little bit more so that Kaci could see what happened over the last hour or so.

Christie watched Kaci carefully as she relived the last hour with a frown on her face. When the memories finished, Kaci didn't say anything for a few minutes, but when she did eventually speak, it wasn't what Christie had thought she would say.

"Think you could introduce me to the peacock guy?"

Christie was so shocked that she started laughing. "Now who has their priorities skewiff? Out of all of that, you just want to meet Rov? If you came out of my room more often, you would be able to meet him." She put her hand on the wall behind her and pushed herself up. "I bet they're still where I left them, so why don't we head over and I can introduce you two?" She smirked and started walking, not giving Kaci much of a chance to reply. It took her a second, but she heard the click of her claws on the concrete behind her.

"If it wasn't for the fact you can't look after yourself, I would leave you now and go back to my nap," the wolf huffed but stayed behind Christie.

"Hey! I'm not useless. Plus, you can get back to your nap when we get back, it's not as if you do anything else." Christie smirked and kept a look out around her just in case something did decide to happen to them.

Christie had no idea how long it took, but she got back somewhere near the plaza where she left Heilyn and Rovelaen, trying with all her might to block out the images of what Kaci wanted to do with Rov when she got a hold of him. She stopped just outside of the plaza and looked at the wolf. "Girl, you can be so nasty sometimes. Anyway, you know what would happen if you were seen, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, I would be hunted and caught and put in the zoo. I'll follow you from the alleys, just to prove how much I really want to meet this guy."

Christie shook her head with a smile on her face. "Just be careful."

"I could say the same to you." Kaci took off before she'd even finished, but left the connection open so she could follow easily, so Christie headed back into the plaza to find the boys and apologize.

"And why is that?" Rovelaen asked smoothly, watching Heilyn from the corner of his eye. He was still looking a bit startled about this new topic, and Oldie's last words hadn't helped his situation any.

"Her ability to see the truth-" Oldie started, but Heilyn shook him hard enough to cut him off.

"What does that have to do with Kiliaen's special deflection power?" Heilyn seethed, his patience now on the verge of turning into anger. He wanted this to be over with.

"I don't know, that's all that Kylie told me," Oldie murmured.

Rovelaen pursed his lips in thought, but he didn't share what he was thinking. Instead, he asked another question. "So Kiliaen wants Saiph dead because of her ability to tell if someone is lying or not? That seems...odd. How does this affect him?"

"I said I don't know!" Oldie shouted.

Heilyn jabbed the knife into his skin a little harder, drawing more blood. "Keep your voice down," he growled.

Rovelaen frowned at Heilyn's harshness, but he didn't comment on it. He glanced at Oldie one more time before he stood up straight. "I think we're done here. Let him go."

Heilyn wanted to say no, but he knew that Oldie wasn't going to leave knowing what happened to him. Rovelaen was going to induce a fear so powerful that it would erase the past few minutes they had spent questioning him. It was a useful skill, one that they had worked on together. Rovelaen was about to shift into his peacock form when he heard shuffling footsteps on the rooftops above them. Heilyn also heard it, and when they both looked up they barely had the time to react.

Kiliaen was staring down at them with a gaze so cold Heilyn could feel a chill run down his spine. He wasn't even paying attention to them; his brown eyes were focused solely on Oldie.

"Traitor," he whispered. He flicked his hand out at Oldie, and before Heilyn could process what he was seeing, a small dagger flew through the air and embedded itself into the man's forehead. Heilyn pulled back just as Rovelaen rushed over and stood protectively in front of him, not caring that Oldie's body had slumped down onto the ground.

Kiliaen finally shifted his gaze to them. "We'll meet again." His voice reverberated throughout the alley with an eerie tone, and he suddenly flickered away into nothing.

"Rovelaen-"

"I'm not going after him. We're lucky that he didn't try to attack us; if what that man had said was true, then the best we could've done was run away," Rovelaen told him with a forced calm.

"Damn it!" Heilyn shouted as he punched the wall next to him.

"I don't understand...if he's a Spirit, I should have felt at least a flicker of his presence!" Rovelaen said in agitation. "He shouldn't have been able to sneak up on us, especially when he was so close."

"Well, he did," Heilyn growled, rubbing his hands through his hair irritably as he walked over to Oldie's limp body. "So much for that."

Rovelaen sighed heavily and rubbed his forehead. "This is troubling. If I can't sense him, then no one can. Unless..." he trailed off. His eyes suddenly lit up with understanding. He snapped his fingers together and said excitedly, "Ah! I figured it out!"

Heilyn crossed his arms and waited expectantly.

"If Kiliaen truly has the ability to deflect any attack, then that would also work on my spiritual tracking abilities. He's deflecting my ability to sense him! If he were to stop using his powers, I could track his whereabouts without a doubt," Rovelaen explained diligently, looking up at the roof where Kiliaen had been standing moments before.

"Great, one mystery solved," Heilyn murmured with a grimace. "That doesn't explain what this has to do with Saiph."

Rovelaen lost the excitement on his face. "No, it doesn't."

"Even if we could figure out how Saiph could be Kiliaen's 'undoing', it won't do us any good considering she's left us high and dry," Heilyn muttered bitterly.

Rovelaen gave him an exasperated look. "Don't start this again."

Heilyn raised his arms in surrender and said, "I'm not starting anything."

Rovelaen knew better, but he chose not to press the subject. It was painfully obvious that Saiph's decision still affected him. It wouldn't help him if Rovelaen nagged him about it.
